Starting an Angel Group Seminar

This full-day seminar provides a comprehensive overview of the strategic and tactical steps needed to create the angel group that best fits the characteristics and interests of your community.

The seminar was developed by the Kauffman Foundation with content contributed by experts and angel group leaders around the United States. It is based on the Kauffman Foundation publication, A Guidebook to Developing the Right Angel Organization for Your Community. It provides a hands-on experience that includes expert perspectives, small group case studies, and group participation. Opportunities to talk individually with faculty and participants are available throughout the day.

How is the seminar taught and who are the speakers?
SAO features a combination of expert facilitation, small group case studies, group participation, and videotaped perspectives by experts and leaders from a variety of existing angel organizations.

Susan Preston is a lead presenter for SAO and author of the Kauffman publication, A Guidebook to Developing the Right Angel Organization for Your Community. Additional experts who have led the development and growth of angel groups may also serve as lead instructors. Opportunities to talk individually with faculty and participants are available throughout the day.

Synopsis of agenda and materials provided
The focus of the day is to understand best practices in the field so that participants may build sustainable organizations that support entrepreneurial growth in their communities. Agenda topics include:

  • Overview of different angel organization structures
  • Your community assessment and case studies
  • Developing membership strategies
  • Choosing a legal structure
  • Estimating costs and financing your organization

Seminar participants receive a workbook of the full day's topics

Seminar License
The host organization will enter into a seminar licensing agreement with ARI, acting for the Kauffman Foundation. The first time license fee includes the provision of significant support for marketing and implementation from the seminar manager and outside lead instructor. The second time (and thereafter) license fee includes content updates, an updated workbook file from the seminar manager and outside lead faculty.
